Real-World WiFi & Network Solutions
At The WiFi Experts, we design and install reliable, high-performance WiFi and network solutions for homes and businesses throughout Auckland. Every property is different, so we take the time to understand the environment, identify coverage or performance issues, and recommend a solution that suits the property and the way the network is actually used. Below are some examples of our recent projects.
Alta Labs Sports Club Network Installation
We recently designed and installed a complete Alta Labs network solution for a local sports club, replacing the existing setup with a modern, centrally managed network designed to provide fast, reliable wireless coverage across both the indoor and outdoor areas of the facility.
One of the key requirements for this project was to provide strong and consistent WiFi coverage throughout the main indoor club area, while also extending the wireless network well beyond the building and out across the sports field. This required careful consideration of wireless access point placement to ensure good coverage, performance and reliability across two very different environments.
At the centre of the new network, we supplied and installed an Alta Labs firewall, providing the club with a dedicated network gateway and a solid foundation for the new system. This was paired with an Alta Labs managed PoE network switch, providing both network connectivity and power to the wireless access points from a central location.
We then installed three high-performance Alta Labs wireless access points, strategically positioned around the property to maximise coverage. The access points were selected and positioned to provide strong wireless performance throughout the main club facilities while also extending reliable connectivity into the outdoor areas and across the sports field.
Once the installation was complete, the entire network was configured and tested to ensure good wireless coverage, stable connectivity and consistent performance throughout the required areas.
The WiFi Experts designed and installed a complete high-performance network and CCTV solution, built around the latest UniFi WiFi 7 wireless technology.
Multiple UniFi WiFi 7 wireless access points were strategically installed throughout the site to provide fast, reliable wireless coverage with excellent capacity for modern devices and demanding business applications. The network was designed with both current requirements and future growth in mind.At the core of the system, we specified and configured a MikroTik Cloud Core Router, providing enterprise-grade routing and firewall performance.
The router was selected not only for its high throughput and advanced networking capabilities, but also to support multiple internet connections and automatic failover, helping keep the site online should the primary connection experience an outage.The WiFi Experts also supplies and manages the site's UFB fibre internet connection, alongside a dedicated 5G backup connection. In the event of a fibre outage, the network can automatically fail over to 5G, helping maintain internet connectivity for staff, cloud services, WiFi and other critical network systems.
As part of the project, a UniFi Protect CCTV system was also installed, providing centrally managed security cameras integrated into the site's wider technology infrastructure.The finished solution provides the client with a fast, resilient and professionally managed network combining WiFi 7, enterprise-grade routing, redundant internet connectivity and modern CCTV into one complete system.
The Boatshed Hotel – Waiheke Island
The WiFi Experts were engaged to design, supply and install a complete UniFi SDN networking solution for The Boatshed Hotel on Waiheke Island.With the hotel operating throughout the project, careful planning was essential.
We coordinated the removal of the existing network and installation of the new system at a time that minimised disruption to guests and day-to-day hotel operations.The new UniFi network delivers fast, reliable WiFi coverage throughout the property, providing a significantly improved experience for both guests and staff.
A dedicated guest wireless network was also configured, complete with a professionally branded WiFi login splash page, giving guests a seamless connection experience while maintaining separation from the hotel's internal network.The result is a modern, centrally managed network providing excellent wireless coverage, reliability and a professional guest WiFi experience.
Grandstream Network Reconfiguration & Remote Management
The WiFi Experts were engaged to review and reconfigure an existing Grandstream wireless network that had originally been installed by the client’s electrical contractor.
While the hardware itself was suitable, the network had not been configured with any form of remote management or centralised monitoring, and ongoing issues were beginning to arise.
Rather than unnecessarily replacing the existing equipment, we retained the Grandstream access points and reconfigured them onto the Grandstream GDMS network management platform. This allowed the wireless network to be centrally managed, monitored and maintained remotely. The access points were also reconfigured with the appropriate wireless settings to suit the client’s operational requirements.
As part of the upgrade, we also updated the MikroTik router firmware, installed a new Grandstream managed PoE switch, and reviewed the overall network configuration.Once the work was completed, comprehensive network information and documentation was provided to the client’s head office IT provider, ensuring they had full visibility of the updated infrastructure.
The result was a more reliable, professionally managed network without the unnecessary cost and disruption of replacing equipment that was still perfectly serviceable.
UniFi Network System for Large Rural Property – Kumeū
The WiFi Experts designed and installed a complete UniFi network system for a large rural property in Kumeū, where both wireless performance and aesthetics were equally important to the client.
A dedicated central communications room housed the property’s network and AV equipment, allowing the core infrastructure to be kept neatly organised and out of sight. The system included a UniFi gateway and firewall, managed PoE network switching, and approximately 10 UniFi wireless access points positioned throughout the property to provide strong, reliable WiFi coverage.
To protect the significant investment in network and AV equipment, we also installed two 3000VA UPS units, providing battery backup and protection against power interruptions and fluctuations.
Particular attention was given to the placement of the wireless access points. In the formal living areas, visible ceiling or wall-mounted WAPs were not desirable. As shown in the project photos, we utilised a recessed wall cavity for the access point and positioned artwork over the opening. Because the artwork and its materials had minimal impact on the wireless signal, we were able to maintain excellent WiFi performance while keeping the technology completely hidden from view.
The finished installation delivered strong wireless coverage throughout the property without compromising the interior design, achieving the balance between performance, reliability and aesthetics that the client was looking for.
